A COLD Hike up Mt AKAGI, Japan // Exploring Maebashi City
Mt Akagi is an incredible winter hike, with breathtaking terrain, and snow that never gets too deep, so all you need to hike it are crampons. A good mountain for a relatively beginner-friendly snow hike. It is a little distant from Tokyo, and while a day trip in and out from the city is possible, I'd recommend finding a way to stay the night to make things less hectic.
Here I stay the night at nearby Maebashi city, which also presents the chance for a mini city adventure the following morning. Fantastic!
Hike details on Yamap:
yamap.com/activities/29206896
Getting here:
From Shinjuku or Ikebukuro in central Tokyo, take the Shinkansen (or the slower Shonan Shinjuku Line) to Takasaki, and then transfer to the Ryomo Line to get to Maebashi. A bus from Maebashi takes you up to the vicinity of Akagi Visitor Center on weekends. Buses are infrequent, so check the timings and try to line them up.

Thanks and welcome!
Quality Video with Subtitle. Love the shots, you made in this video.
Thank you!
Outstanding cinematography my friend! Shots and overall quality are simply incredible!
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching!
The snow scenery is very beautiful.and the food looks delicious
Thank you, it was!
Как же я жалею что не родился хотябы в 2000 году, почему я родился в конце 2009..?
Nice Vid! I'm going to Tokyo soon as well - the Team Labs place looked Sick! I'm traveling with a much bulkier Nikon Z9 + 85mm 1.2 set-up 😬 - Hopefully I can lug it around and maybe capture some nice vids like yourself!
Thanks! 85mm 1.2 sounds like a sick setup alright :) Turns out btw that there are two teamLab locations in Tokyo, this one is the one at Toyosu, there's another at Azabudai that I guess I gotta check out next time.
Based on the excellent quality of your videos I would expect your viewership to rise quickly. Thanks for the reply. Singapore is on my list.
Very well done. Jason. Where is home for you?
Thanks! I kind of hop around a bit, but I probably spend the most time in Singapore.
Great video. Thank you.

As a great man once said “WHERE’S YOUR MOTIVATION?”
Will I get lost in the trees if I go alone with not much of experience?
Hello. You're not likely to get (very) lost! It's not very secluded and the woods along the shores are not very large. There are also a lot of entry/exit points all along the trail so even if you do get lost you would not have to walk very far to get to the nearest road, where you can call a taxi in a pinch. My cellphone also had good geolocation throughout so that helps!
@@Jasonmoofang Great, thank you! I'll be going there this weekend! Hope to get some great view.
@@Jasonmoofang I went therelast saturday, and the view was spectecular. I also went hiking at Onoyama Mt. near yamakita station. It's not hard and beautiful, too. You can do a.day trip from Tokyo as well.
@@SweetChilliSources Thanks for the heads up!
Good stuffs Sir
Thank you!
Después de tantos años finalmente llega a 1 un millón de visitas.
I am aghast as to how you have such few views on this video! Watching this a second time on tv now and OMG I gotta say that this is a VERY different look and "feel" of Japan compared to a LOT of the other videos that I've watched so far, especially on Onsens! Subbed!
Thanks! I'm so glad you saw and liked it on a TV, that's kind of the experience I wanted to go for, even though of course views on all form factors make me happy :)
@@Jasonmoofang tv viewership is growing on YT so it’s a waiting game 😊🙌🏽

Hey Jason! Thanks for sharing this awesome video! I want to follow the same route but have a few questions … Have sent you a message on Insta, not sure if you’re still active there though 🫠
Hello! I'm no longer active on insta, but I did pop over to check. I didn't seem to have received a message from you though, if you like you can comment your question here and I'll try and answer!
@@Jasonmoofang Looks like the message went into your “requests” box. Thanks for your reply!! I’m planning to do an overnight hike at Mt.Tanzawa for my BD this year (in May). I’m wondering how did you book the Sonbutsu Sansou hut?
@@bowiehoneybabyAh. Looking at the website now, I probably called in. If you're relatively comfortable with speaking Japanese you should be able to do that even really close to your intended stay date - as long as you stay well clear of Golden Week. For a mountain hut that can be reserved by email (though you may still need to communicate in Japanese), you can try checking out Kumotori Sansou near the summit of Mt Kumotori.
Thanks for the tips! My Japanese is quite rusty (lived there for 3 years but left in 2009 so it was quite a while not using the language lol). But I’ll try!

This is really cool Jason! We were there during spring/summer. Did you eat at Pierrot? Its famous, so im told, but i really didnt care for it! My wife and oldest were too scared to see the view at the summit of Mt Hakodate. It was busy for us too, but my youngest daughter and I loved it. Truly stunning. Are you going through Sapporo? Stop by the chocolate factory there and try the Shiroi Koibito if you havent, they were delicious. Oh youre going through Aomori! Amazing! If you get to Akita make sure to try Kiritanpo or Misotanpo. Both amazingly delicious specialties of the area. Ill be watching for more!
Hey there thanks! Yeah I didn't get to try Pierrot, but I thought the exterior decor looked rather cool, and noticed multiple outlets too whereas I don't think I've seen it elsewhere in Japan before. I've actually been to Sapporo and Akita before and tried some of the things you mentioned, and also managed a night at Tsuru no Yu Onsen before it became as popular as it apparently is now. So this trip I decided we'd come down via Aomori and Iwate instead. Working on the next part :) Thanks for watching and commenting!
very beautiful! great video work :) i have much to learn from you!
Thank you!
Love this! Thank you for taking us along. :)
Thanks for coming along 😁
Its actually insane to think that someone can have such quality content and not be popular yet. Keep going man
Comments like yours are comforting :) Though to be fair I'm not really doing myself any favors with my super infrequent upload schedule haha. Thanks for watching again!
